Choose an airport around the place you are actually visiting. Johannesburg, Pretoria and nearby towns have different reference locations, even when a booking website groups flights under the same city name. Compare the airport code, distance to your destination and the flight available on your travel date. Then check the road journey to your accommodation. For a return flight, use the exact departure airport printed on the ticket rather than assuming it is the airport where you arrived.
The nearest airfield on a map is not always an airport with a passenger flight you can book. Start with airports that serve your departure point, then compare their positions around your destination. If a directory entry says “Flights listed — check with airline”, confirm a current route and date before arranging a transfer. An entry marked “No regular flights listed” may still have private or charter activity, but it should not be treated as an ordinary airline option.
O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) and Lanseria International Airport (HLA) are separate airport locations. From the Johannesburg reference point used here, JNB is approximately 21 km away and HLA is approximately 32 km away in a straight line. Check the airport code on your booking before choosing a pickup point or planning a journey. Your accommodation may be elsewhere in the wider Johannesburg area, so use the Johannesburg airport comparison as a starting point and check a road route to your actual address.
Cape Town International Airport uses CPT; King Shaka International Airport uses DUR. A service-city name identifies the city associated with an airport, not the terminal’s exact position. CPT is approximately 18 km from our Cape Town reference coordinate. If you are heading to Stellenbosch or Hermanus, open that town’s comparison rather than reuse the Cape Town figure. For a Garden Route destination such as Knysna, George Airport (GRJ) is approximately 62 km from the selected Knysna point. These are location comparisons, not driving times or statements about which flights operate on your date.
All airport distances on TownWing are calculated between two geographic coordinates. Roads follow a different path, and traffic, parking, terminal access and the final street address are not included. A result of 30 km does not mean a 30-minute drive. For an airport transfer, check the actual road route and arrange enough time for the journey separately. Airport-to-airport distances in a profile also use different endpoints from city-to-airport figures; compare like with like.
Before choosing an arrival airport, check a flight from your departure city and a road route to the address where you will stay. Compare the airport code, arrival time and onward journey together. A nearby airport with no suitable flight is not automatically a better choice; a longer straight-line distance does not establish the cost or duration of a transfer.
For FlySafair, plan to arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight or three hours before an international flight. Add the road journey and parking time separately, and check the instructions for your operating airline. If you checked in online, allow time for bag drop where needed, security and reaching the gate. Airport arrival, check-in closure and boarding-gate closure are different milestones.
